Here they come:
The Timed Testing Top Ten
The times were taken while most teams were at the location in Estoril (Portugal)
at the end of February. You can not take these times too serious (I hope)!!
So let's see:
1. Mika Hakkinen McLaren Mercedes 1:19:65
2. Jacques Villeneuve Williams Renault 1:19:85
3. Gerhard Berger Benetton Renault 1:19:90
4. Rubens Barrichello Jordan Peugeot 1:19:93
5. Jean Alesi Benetton Renault 1:20:26
6. Mika Salo Tyrrell Yamaha 1:20:45
7. Damon Hill Williams Renault 1:20:95
8. Martin Brundle Jordan Peugeot 1:21:17
9. Michael Schumacher Ferrari 1:21:61
10. David Coulthard McLaren Mercedes 1:21:86
Tremendous effort by Mika, especially after his stunning end of the 1995
season. Seems to become a promising season for McLaren. Also a great drive
by the young Villeneuve, over a second ahead of his teammate. The Benettons
again look like they are racing for the title; Berger and Alesi have not
destroyed as many cars as within their first testing period. Mika Salo surprisingly
ahead of Damon Hill and ahead of the reigning world champion Michael Schumacher
in the Ferrari. Let's hope Ferrari can get two cars together till the start
on sunday that will race for victory and that will see the checkered flag.
